Sintered SmCo features high intrinsic coercivity and excellent demagnetization resistance, with relatively high remanence and maximum energy product, delivering strong magnetic pull. It has a low remanence temperature coefficient, meaning magnetic flux changes slightly with temperature. Boasting a high Curie temperature, it can operate at elevated temperatures. It also offers outstanding corrosion and oxidation resistance, and generally requires no surface coating under normal working conditions, supporting a wide range of applications. Samarium cobalt is an anisotropic magnet, mainly available in two grades: SmCo₅ and Sm₂Co₁₇.
Main application fields of SmCo:
Aerospace and military industry: satellites, aircraft, gyroscopes, navigation systems, high-temperature actuators, radar microwave components. It features good temperature and radiation resistance as well as stable magnetic performance.
High-temperature motors and generators: servo motors, special permanent magnet motors, aerospace generators for continuous working above 180℃.
Oil & gas downhole tools: MWD logging while drilling, downhole sensors, mud motors. It can resist high temperature without demagnetization, unlike NdFeB.
Sensors: automotive ABS sensors, Hall sensors, precision instrument sensors with stable magnetic property over wide temperature range.
Medical equipment: MRI gradient coils, high-speed dental hand pieces, implantable micro-pumps and other corrosion-resistant medical devices.
Chemical fluid equipment: magnetic drive pumps, magnetic couplings. It is acid and alkali resistant, oxidation resistant, and requires no complicated coating protection.
Microwave communication components: traveling wave tubes, isolators, circulators and other RF microwave parts.
Others: precision instruments, magnetic bearings, special transmission mechanisms.
